In Amalfi Coast an intriguing project has been approved. This is a wonderful pedestrian walkway that you will aim at connect Amalfi and Ravello, passing through Atrani. A panoramic route, whose spectacularity is favored by the cantilevered structure, which allows you to walk one step away from the splendid Campania sea.
The idea was put forward by the two municipalities, which represent the initial and final part of the path. It will be financed by the Region, which saw a double opportunity in this catwalk. The first is the need for protect citizens who, day after day, travel this stretch on foot, sharing the little space available with passing cars.
The second, which catches everyone's eyes just looking at the renderings, refers to the added value from a tourist point of view. As much as the world has appreciated the beauties of the Amalfi Coast for centuries, as it is, a dream panoramic walkway can only help to enhance its panorama.
Walkway on the Amalfi Coast, the details
The planned pedestrian path will be about two kilometers. The breathtaking view that will be possible to admire from the walkway suggests a large influx of tourists, all busy trying to take the perfect shot. An idea put forward for some time by the two Municipalities, which have now seen the award of the project and are awaiting the green light from the Superintendency.
The Campania Region will take care of the realization, investing approx 80mila euros. The announcement was made by Daniele Milan, mayor of Amalfi, who used his official social networks to also offer the public some photos of the prepared renderings. Specifically, the walkway will be developed on the external stretch of the coast, the one that runs in parallel with the Amalfi road 163.
The tragedy that gave birth to everything
As mentioned, there is a very different motivation beyond the purely tourist one. A work of this kind, albeit of great charm, will make it possible to protect the safety of citizens. The pedestrians who travel this stretch of road every day, passing from Amalfi to Ravello, or vice versa, they put their lives at risk.
In fact, we find ourselves sharing the path with passing vehicles. Very often the view is reduced, considering the many curves and the tragedy is around the corner. The decisive boost to the project seems to have been the dramatic death of a young man from Ravello, overwhelmed by a tourist bus. Cases of this kind cannot be repeated.
What is missing at the start of the works
Here are the words of the mayor of Ravello, Salvatore DiMartino: “Another important public work with a strong tourist and landscape impact, of the liveability and safety of the citizens of Ravello and of the entire community of the Amalfi coast, carried out by the Ravello Renaissance group. The initiative took shape in 2018, after the accident of a young man from Ravello, overwhelmed by a bus on the stretch of coast between Amalfi and Ravello ".
There seems to be no doubt about the construction of the panoramic cantilevered walkway. However, the Superintendency has yet to express itself on the matter. The possible environmental impact of the structure will have to be carefully evaluated, considering how it is intended to be built on the external stretch of the coast, overlooking the sea.
