It's time to go back to travel, to savor shreds of normality. Everyone wants to leave the last year and a half behind, perhaps taking a well-deserved vacation, in Italy or abroad. It is impossible, however, to leave the borders of one's own country without having to submit to precise regulations. So here's what the indications provided by the European Commission for travel.
European Commission, travel in 2021
The new recommendations of the European Commission have been released, which aims to regulate the coming months on the travel front in the old continent. An important element is represented by the will to gradually and in a coordinated manner loosen restrictive measures for travel between countries. Reference is made to various regulations, from those relating to minors to those with reference to those arriving in Europe from places outside the EU.
It is unthinkable to face a return to travel without a common plan between nations. Therefore, a coordination is put in place capable of leading to updates of the common criteria. A system valid both for openings and for possible future closings. A clear definition of a risk area is needed, so as to trigger a precise protocol, approved by the Member States, to respond quickly to the advancement of new variants of Covid-19.
Traveling with children
The European Commission proposes a clear regulation for traveling minors. The same rules apply to them as their parents. In order to avoid divisions of families, no quarantine will be provided for children, in the event that the accompanying adults do not have to undergo it. Added to this is the exemption from Covid tests for all minors under the age of 6.
Non-EU travelers
Doors open to non-EU citizens, who will be required to have a complete vaccination test. In this way it will be possible to access and avoid undergoing a mandatory quarantine period. An EU digital certificate is also provided, to guarantee travel through the Member States.
Buffers
Unfortunately, the proposal to make the tampons free has not passed necessary for travelers to be able to move between one country and another. Everything will fall on the wallets of tourists. Europe is making available 100 million euros, which will be used for free tampons to be allocated exclusively to cross-border workers, essential workers, students and categories who, out of necessity, have to undergo frequent movements.
It is not to be excluded that, in the short term, antigenic swabs, which are rapid, decidedly cheaper than molecular ones, may also be accepted, the cost of which varies from region to region, even reaching 100 euros.
European Green Pass
THE1 July is the date chosen for the official launch of the Green pass European, or the EU digital Covid certificate, which will allow travel between European Union countries. We work to make this tool also analog, so as to meet the needs of all citizens. However, it will be possible to obtain it immediately through the IO and Immuni app.
The certificate attests the complete vaccination, the recovery from Covid-19 or the negativity of a recent swab. To avoid quarantine, however, please note that at least 14 days must have elapsed after the second inoculation.
Risk areas
The European Commission proposes a general simplification of the conditions imposed by the Member States for travelers:
- those coming from green areas: no limitations
- those coming from orange areas: possible test requirement at the start
- those coming from red areas: possible quarantine obligation (only in the absence of tests at departure or vaccine
- those coming from dark red areas: non-essential travel should be discouraged. Mandatory testing and quarantine
