"We will come out better”… A mantra that was often repeated during the darkest months of the pandemic, in which it was thought that this abrupt stop to the frenetic normality it could really have transformed society and changed (for the better) the concept of collectivity. But did it go like this? According to Zerocalcare (Michele Rech), among the best known and most appreciated Italian cartoonists, the answer is simply no. This great contemporary theme (and not only) will be at the center of the exhibition "Zerocalcare.After the bang", Which will be held in the spaces of Steam Factory di Milano, from 15th December al 7 April 2023. The exhibition, which will present a collection of more than 500 original plates, illustrations, video lesson, unpublished sketches, but also asite-specific work, Was conceived by Silvia Barbagallo, edited by Julia Ferracci, produced by artemisia e Minimondi Events and promoted by the Municipality of Milan-Culture.
After the bang: the meteorite fell
The new exhibition "Zerocalcare. After the bang", which will debut in mid-December in Milan, will tackle an important and complicated topic, namely that of post pandemic. The fight against Covidunfortunately, it did not bring people together. Indeed, the company found itself more disrupted because offorced isolation and solitude which resulted from it. This has made us lose more and more contact with reality, politics and resistance. The "bang" caused the fragmentation of some social battles and the war in Ukraine, as well as the global crisis, triggered further sentiment of fear need uncertainty. The meteor is not falling, it has fallen (Zerocalcare). As stated by Silvia Barbagallo, with the new upcoming exhibition Zerocalcare «leads us to look up and recognize all that network of revolt, of hope that does not go out and that is worth recognizing and keeping alive».
Zerocalcare: bookshop tour with "No Sleep Till Shengal"
"Zerocalcare.Dopo the bang" is not the only news coming for the fans of the Roman cartoonist. From the 3 Octoberin fact, Zerocalcare will start its own bookshop tour to present his latest work "No Sleep Till Shengal"(Bao Publishing). It is a comic reportage of his trip to Middle East of 2021, in which he tells the drama of the Ezidi in Iraq, a population discriminated against and massacred, surviving the attempted genocide by theISIS in 2014. The booktour will start from Feltrinelli of Piedmont square a Milano and will continue on 5 October to Feltrinelli of Via Appia Nuova a Roma, 7 October to the Feltrinelli RED di Florence, 10 October OGR of Turin, 12 October to the Foqus of Naples, 14 October to the Feltrinelli in via Melo a Bari and it will end the 17 October al Red and black di Palermo.
These last months of 2022 therefore look very busy between the October tour and the highly anticipated exhibition "Zerocalcare.After the bang"Expected in December. What will be the next projects of the Roman cartoonist? Surely the highly anticipated "second season" of his TV series on Netflix, after the success of "Tear off along the edges". This, however, as confirmed by the author himself, will not be a sequel as he will tell a different story. Will the new animated series of Zerocalcare be able to replicate the success of the first? We will find out (perhaps) in the coming months.
