Lto the training ship of the Marina Militare, Amerigo Vespucci this year, has turned 90 years of life handed down between history and fantastic legends. In these days the beautiful sailing ship has crossed the waters of the Costa degli Dei stopping in the port of Vibo Marina to pay homage to the head of state, Sergio Mattarella, in Calabria for the inauguration of the school year.
The Vespucci and its 90 years of history
To bring his respectful greeting to the President of the Republic, the most envied training ship of the Navy. In fact, in the port of Vibo Marina, at the “Cortese” quay, Molo Rosso, the Vespucci, in the male as they say in the jargon of the Navy, has docked.
Majestic in its elegance and resplendent with the Italian flag, the training ship has allowed itself to be contemplated by tourists and enthusiasts. With a fascinating and totally engaging capacity of attraction, suspended between history and legends, the Vespucci has caught the eye and kidnapped the mind. The Costa degli Dei received the homage from a symbol ship, national maritime pride, which made the atmosphere of the sea even more suggestive.
Italian pride
In command of the training ship, the Ship captain, Massimiliano Siragusa, Designated Commander of Nave Amerigo Vespucci since last September 18th. The Commander himself retraced the history of the Vespucci, revealing many curiosities, calling us accomplices in a passion that lives on the sea. “The Vespucci, the Navy in general, are life and service - he declared - and we are thrilled to see the fidelity of Italian ports and of the whole nation to the passage of the training ship.
Its majesty has been recognized since ancient times, a record that still continues to nourish pure emotions today. The Vespucci ship plays a strategic role in an international context. The men who have the honor of being part of the crew - continued the captain - testify to its extraordinary nature. The sea is a physical and emotional place, personal and professional expression with a perfect symbiosis. Our essence is indissolubly intertwined with the waters, so much so that we participate in the same destiny. The Navy is not a uniform but it is an existential paradigm".
Living with the sea
The Vespucci event, in the port of Vibo, concluded the initiative of Living with the sea, enhance the coastal heritage, organized within the General States of the Calabrian sea of Flag of the Strait-Tyrrhenian Area 2. The event is divided into several stages (Scilla, Nicotera, Villa San Giovanni) turned the spotlight on the sea.
Not only as a place of tourist attraction but also as a nerve center for restaurateurs and fishermen. In this way highlighting the necessary synergy between all the actors of the marine landscape; underlining the great attention to blue fish, prized for taste and nutritional values. The evening ended with a 'stellar' show-cooking between the goldsmith master Gerardo Sacco and the chef Fabio Campoli.
