That surprise of the Kinder Egg seemed to him just not very attractive. Maybe we could do better and some ideas Andrea Princivalli he thought he had it. The ten-year collaboration that this professional of made in Italy creativity has with the multinational Ferrero, specifically with those surprises of the Kinder Eggs that are now over forty and that are known and loved by children from all over the world. In his hunt for creatives for Eggs, Michele ferrero he had also found in this Venetian artist the curiosity of those who put themselves in the shoes of children looking for the right idea to surprise and capture them. As the owner of Ferrero said, “Children love Easter eggs because they find the surprise inside, so let's give them Easter every day”. The realization of the Ovetti was in 1974 and was entrusted to William Salice, a Turin-born who dealt with marketing in the company and who became the material executor of this brilliant idea. The Ovetto was good but, from the beginning, it was understood that the success of this product is represented by the surprise that was inside. It was with Salice that Andrea Princivalli had a privileged relationship and still remembers it today with great affection.

Gli Ovetti and Princivalli, a twenty-year long collaboration

How did this adventure start? “About twenty years ago - says Princivalli - as soon as I left the Academy of Fine Arts, one summer day I opened a Kinder egg just with the desire to see the surprise. A delusion…. I made a drawing by reworking it and I thought about sending it to Ferrero. After more than a month he called me William Willow, a very particular person, from many points of view.

He special for production and marketing, special Michele ferrero that supported him and that allowed him to realize many ideas. They gave me fifteen days to present an original, nice, nice proposal that works, let's see how it goes. It went well, after many years I still collaborate with Ferrero, lately especially for consultancy. The Kinder Eggs were the first but lately the competition in this area is really ruthless ".

Ducento surprises bear the signature of the Italian creative

The first idea that Princivalli suggested to Ferrero was so unique that they could hardly make it happen, but this was not a handicap but an opportunity. In line with their philosophy of playability, which is to put together game and skill. “Over the years I have proposed, for example, strange animals with very long ears that launched themselves into the air and then glided down like a small helicopter. I promoted the use of materials such as paper that were initially badly received and then very much liked. I wanted to push on projects that I especially liked. I was also able to bring pre-cinema experiences that were then included in the surprises ”.

How many of your surprises in recent years have been successful? “Out of over a thousand proposals presented, about two hundred have become surprises of the Kinder Eggs. Making children happy is a difficult and tiring job, which requires great professionalism because we must also consider many technical, pedagogical and psychological constraints ". How do you get to the realization of the surprise? "Once the proposal is approved, I provide the design and then there are those who make it in paper, plastic or in any case with the indicated material". Over the years, from the first games that still had creative purposes, we have come to interactive games. In all this, Andrea Princivalli's experience was useful to find the inspiration, the idea to amaze the children's imagination, which is by no means easy. With a principle: “If what I have thought bores me and does not amuse me, it means that even for a child it is not good, so the idea must be discarded. I am self-critical and I always question myself, but I need this to grow ".

Rai and the DoReCiakGulp abbreviations

This is why he was very surprised, now several years ago, when the RAI journalist Vincenzo Mollica she contacted him after seeing one of his youth video clips made for a musical group. “Mollica had offered me to show up. I didn't have the courage to call him and after a while he looked for me.

I started collaborating to make the initials for his DoReCiakGulp column, we have worked together for several years. From there, collaborations were born with other professionals in the entertainment world and again with Rai ”. Di Princivalli is also the logo of a program dedicated to Cinema Exhibition of 2016 with an animated roaring lion. “Your drawings are in color even when they are in black and white, it's a compliment from Mollica. So cool (almost embarrassing) that I decided to put it on my resume. A wonderful relationship has remained with Vincenzo Mollica ”.

That time Altan asked me to make a cartoon with his characters

Another important collaboration, the one with Altan, Pimpa's father. Andrea Princivalli had the opportunity to contact him almost by chance and not only a professional collaboration but also a friendship was born. "He proposed that I make him a cartoon with his characters that I animated". The music was from Enrico Rava, one of the best known Italian jazz players in the world. “That too was a terrific experience. The cartoon was screened at Villa Tivoli while Rava was playing live with his band (it was the Rava Noir concert) and also at the Auditorium in Turin and at a Festival in Sardinia.

It was an immense and very tiring job, I had to animate about 60 minutes of images of Altan (who for me is an idol), but it was also a beautiful experience and a huge, epochal emotion ". A success achieved with skill and tenacity. And with a bit of luck. “Of course, it also takes a little luck. But you have to push, never stop. Perhaps also thanks to my character, I understood this immediately. And that's the message I try to convey to the kids. Doing, doing, doing since you were still a student. Be creative with experience. I made the first Kinder surprises when I was a kid at the Academy, when I studied Modeled and built, almost for fun, many puppets. A professor had also suggested it to me, you could propose yourself for the surprises of the Kinder Eggs. Who would have thought that then it would have happened just like that…. ".
