As every year, Lonely Planet has published its "Best in Travel", a ranking of countries, regions and cities to visit in 2022. And it is among the cities that an Italian destination stands out.

Best in Travel 2022, Florence among the cities to see

Three top ten to define travel trends in 2022: the highly anticipated Best in Travel have been published. Where to go on vacation next year? At the top of the list of countries to visit we find the remote Cook Islands, an extraordinary fusion of Polynesian traditions and a strong propensity for challenges. "When international travel recovers from Covid-19, strategies focused on sustainability will make Cooks emerge as a fascinating and surprising destination”Reads the site. But there is also space for Italy, in the Best in Travel 2022: Florence is in fact in ninth place among the cities to visit in the coming year.

Why Florence? Cradle of the Renaissance and a treasure trove of splendid art and architecture treasures, famous all over the world, Florence is among the most loved Italian cities in the world. From a must-see on every Grand Tour in the XNUMXth century to a modern tourist destination, Florence is the cradle of beauty. However, it was its ability to reinvent itself that conquered Lonely Planet: when the pandemic took away visitors and revenues, the Tuscan capital rethought the future by creating a new and exciting artistic path.

Post-pandemic Florence

After the Pandemic, Florence had to rethink. And he has fielded interesting itineraries on foot, newsstands embellished by street art, secret places for stargazing throughout the city and visits to art studios. The initiatives that the city has put in place (unusual Florence, Uffizi diffusi, Manifattura Tabacchi) have been awarded by Lonely Planet, and led the Tuscan destination straight into Best in Travel 2022. As mayor Dario Nardella explained, Florence is not stuck in the cradle of the Renaissance: it is working hard in terms of innovation and sustainability, on new neighborhoods and how to enjoy free time. "Our cultural offer is the most important in Italy in relation to the inhabitants, and it is such that we have raised the average stay from two to three nights" has explained.

Intercontinental tourism wants to return to Italy and Florence, so much so that the city is working with Lonely Planet on new proposals. The target? Taking tourists (also) out of the historic center. The idea is to create a guide, "Florence100“, To tell the 100 square kilometers that represent the beauties of the city outside the center. Starting right from the Manifattura Tabacchi, a sort of city of the future which - born from a former cigar factory - is now a neighborhood reborn under the banner of art, fashion and design. A sort of new destination, and a new progressive and contemporary Florence.
