The world is starting to live with Covid, especially thanks to the spread of vaccinations. However, the health situation remains extraordinary, which complicates some things that until 2019 we considered normal. Just think of travel, constantly at risk, since a sudden positivity can force you to cancel any booking. So what should I do in case of canceled trips?

Canceled flight: what to do

There are different situations in which it is possible to find oneself. Here are all the possible scenarios to deal with:

  • Airline cancels the flight: the passenger must be notified in good time, with the offer of a feasible alternative. A new flight may be proposed with a date and time as close as possible to the one booked. It will be possible to obtain a refund in the event of an unsatisfactory offer
  • Passenger cancels Covid case: this is a fairly common reason, unfortunately, and most airlines allow booking changes, offering a year to return to travel, taking advantage of the economic investment made at this stage. Depending on the carrier, you may have to pay a difference in the fare for the adjustment. A full refund may also be requested, depending on the company's policy

Canceled train: what to do

The cancellation of your train ticket due to force majeure, from positive Covid to preventive quarantine, may result in a request for a full refund. With Trenitalia, for example, you can obtain the sum in cash or in the form of a voucher. To do this, all you have to do is reach the area Management and Refunds, by entering the identification code of the ticket and the reason that led to the cancellation. No right to reimbursement, however, for personal reasons.

Canceled hotel reservation: what to do

In the case of canceled hotel and holiday home reservations, the options are varied and all depend on the cancellation terms, which must be read carefully before accepting and proceeding with payment. If so airbnb, for example, this varies from ad to ad. The management is in fact entrusted to the individual hosts, called to clearly underline the cancellation terms.

Covid travel

At this stage we tend to be very flexible. As for private apartments it is easy to spot advertisements that allow one cancellation without penalty up to 24 hours from arrival. The situation is different for hotels, which could allow cancellation only in the event of extraordinary situations such as positivity to Covid. Also in this case it is necessary to read the terms, so as to understand if it is possible to obtain a full or partial refund. This often depends on the date you cancel, or how close it is to the arrival date.
