Carlo Verdone, comedian, actor and director among the most loved by our local public, the 17th November will turn off 70 candles. His was a career made up mostly of successes in front of and behind the camera. 2020 also marks another great stage, namely the 40th anniversary of the output of A sacco bello. This is Verdone's debut film as an actor, screenwriter and director, which earned him recognition as a David di Donatello un Golden globe it's a Silver ribbon as best actor.

Verdone's films can be considered as the expression of more genuine cinema and "a lot beautiful". Grew up under the wing of Sergio Leone, mentor and great friend, as well as producer of his first two films, Verdone has managed over the years to re-propose Italy on the big screen (and especially his Roma) simpler, also made of bizarre characters and a little over the top, but always well done and in which the average viewer can reflect himself.

Coatto, big kid, hypochondriac, hippy, maddening and pedantic, the various characters of Verdone are unforgettable specks of Italian cinema. Even various catchphrases, such as the famous "What do you mean? ”, Pronounced by Leo (A lot beautiful, 1980), "No, it doesn't bother me at all! Say ..."By dr. Raniero Cotti Borroni, or again "O famo strange"Of the forced Ivano, (both protagonists of "Honeymoons", 1995), have now become part of the common language.

70 years of Carlo Verdone: a life between cinema and a passion for medicine

Carlo Verdone is not only a great actor and director, but also a passionate about medicine. Legend has it that he suffered for years from hypochondria (actually it was anxiety disorder). Despite this, from an early age he began to read medical textbooks, becoming a great one connoisseur of many drugs. This fame of his has led him to be an excellent "advisor" for his friends' problems. As Verdone himself told in several interviews, many often call him for medical advice and, apparently, he would never have misdiagnosed. Moreover, thanks to his "studies", theFederico II University di Napoli in 2007 it awarded him the honorary degree in medicine and, in 2019, theOrder of Pharmacists awarded him a special prize (official registration in the register) for his "medical knowledge".

The spirit of Carlo Verdone pharmacist also came out a few weeks ago, during the last episode of "Such and Which Show". When the friend Carlo Conti, which led from home because positive to Covid-19 (but asymptomatic) asked him for some advice on how to cure himself. At that point the Roman actor would have replied with: "Heparin, zithromax, dexamethasone and tachipirina if you have a fever, that's enough". Some doctors would later criticize this "diagnosis", as there is still no effective cure for the disease.

The tragic situation caused by the pandemic of Covid-19 it was a hard blow for so many artists. In fact, even Carlo Verdone had to postpone a January 2021 the release of his new film "You only live once". We hope that, quoting the Roman director himself, "in the end, this virus breaks the cxxx too”, So that we can regain possession of a life currently on stand-by and perhaps return to the cinema to enjoy the latest work of the great Verdone. Happy birthday Carlo!
