December has now arrived and every city in Italy is already preparing to celebrate the holiday season. A Roma, the great fir of Venice plaza has just been delivered and will be inaugurated the8th December, as per tradition. On the same day the illuminations of via del Corso, another inevitable event for the inhabitants of the capital. In addition to lighting the Christmas tree in Rome, on the day ofImmaculate Conception, Papa Francesco he should have gone to Piazza di Spagna to bring flowers at the foot of the statue of the Madonna, which is located in front of the church of Trinità dei Monti (as it did last year). However, due to the worsening of the contagion risk, the Holy Father will celebrate the anniversary with a private act of devotion. For the same reason, Pope Francis will also celebrate the Christmas mass (of 24 December) at 19.30 , just like in 2020.

Knock down the "Spelacchio" bugbear

When it comes toChristmas tree in Rome, the first thought always goes to "Spelacchio”, The shabby fir of piazza Venezia, which in 2017 it cost the Roman taxpayers 48mila euros, and toRays administration a healthy dose of critical need derisions (also internationally). In the following years the situation improved also thanks to the sponsor who contributed to the construction of the tree (for example Netflix in 2020). This year, however, the municipal administration has not signed any contract with the sponsors. The former mayor Raggi was not able to start the procedure to find financiers before leaving the Capitol Hill to make way for the newly elected Roberto Gualtieri. The cost ofRoman fir in 2021 di 169mila euros it will therefore be entirely borne by the municipality of Rome.

The new Christmas tree in Rome is a Normannian abes di 25 meters high and will be illuminated by approx 300 thousand colored lights. The Capitol commissioned the fir to the company Rattiflora di Cascades with Bernate (in the province of Como), the same that has dealt with trees in recent years and is also dealing with that of square Duomo a Milano. With the inauguration of the tree in Piazza Venezia, the council of Gualtieri, it has also decided to launch a social message against world hunger, involving the FAO, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. At its base will eventually be found gods gift boxes, with a specific meaning linked to FAO.

Christmas tree in Rome and FAO: a message against food waste

The new fir that will rise in Rome will be in particular a symbol of anti-waste. THE 17 packs linked to it represent precisely the seventeen FAO goals for a generation a zero hunger (even if that of "zero hunger" is only the second of the objectives for the sustainable development of2030 agenda of the Food and Agriculture Organization). Each package will therefore serve to raise awareness among Roman citizens (and not only) towards this fundamental issue for the protection of the planet.
