From north to south, Italy is dotted with small and extraordinary villages. In Liguria, on the Riviera di Ponente and not far from the more famous Diano Marina and Alassio, Cervo is a very ancient nucleus. A center that, due to its beauty, has earned a place among most beautiful villages in Italy.
What to see in Cervo
Walking through the historic center of Cervo, which can only be covered on foot, you can see how everything bears witness to the Middle Ages. Starting with the cobbled alleys, which house workshops of artisans and artists. And then the buildings which, both civil and religious, have an extraordinary charm. Towards the upper part of the village, you arrive at the Church of St. John the Baptist. While, the highest point ever, hosts the Clavesana castle. Today the seat of the tourist office and the ethnographic museum, it offers a wonderful view of the sea.
In truth, there are several buildings in Cervo that deserve to be visited. First, it should be admired Morchio Palace, now the Town Hall, the church of San Nicola da Tolentino, born on the ruins of an ancient Pagan temple, and theformer Oratory of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, dating back to the thirteenth century. All around, the classic pastel colored houses come together to form characteristic complexes. Historic fishing village, whose main economy was supported by coral fishing, Cervo still has today in fish the centrality of its cuisine.
