Her name is Frida and she is the robot who collaborates with humans to create works of art. Thanks to an artificial intelligence system similar to that of Chat GPT, is able to translate a text, a song or a photograph in a painting, following the user's instructions and correcting the slightly imprecise brush strokes thanks to the supervision of an automatic learning system.
Frida the robot
The artist can specify high-level goals and then Frida can execute them. For now, the colors still have to be mixed manually, but the robotic arm could soon be equipped with an automatic mixing system. The entire process of making the work on canvas takes a few hours. For the future i researchers intend to broaden Frida's abilities and extend her employment to the sculpture. The first results will be presented by researchers from Carnegie Mellon University at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Icra) 2023 in London.
The robot Frida (Framework and Robotics Initiative for Developing Arts) is similar to a robotic paint system, "but he is not an artist, he does not generate ideas to communicate”. This is the clarification of the inventors of him. The project is led by Peter Schaldenbrand with RI faculty members Jean Oh and Jim McCann.
