The Giro d'Italia twenty-one stages along the peninsula

Initially scheduled from 9 to 31 May 2020, the Giro was postponed to October due to the Covid -19 emergency. Athletes are required to cover a total of 3497,9 km divided in twenty-one stages, distributed throughout the peninsula. It started on Saturday 3 October from Monreale in Sicily. It will arrive in Milan on 25 October. An extraordinary race, the one organized this year. After years in which there had been stops in some European or extra-European regions, this edition sees, after time, an entirely Italian journey.

The health emergency, in fact, has forced us to reshape the initial plans and paths. The Rosa 2020 race for three weeks will see all the fans glued to the television screens, or along the embankments of the roads to follow their favorites. It has already been renamed by many, like, the restart lap and the sporting return to normal, even if athletes and fans of the tour will have to respect the anti covid rules.

Great athletes and challenging courses

As every year, the best athletes in the world of international cycling will compete in time trial races, mountain grand prizes. AND the paths chosen have been designed to guarantee a great show. Sea, hill and mountain locations will be touched, and cyclists, like many warriors, will be subjected to significant changes in altitude and temperatures. Twenty-one challenging stages, which include only a two-day break. Twenty-two teams with 2020 international standard bearers participate in the Giro d'Italia 176.

Many are the favorites for the pink jersey. Starting with ours Vincenzo Nibali who had already won in 2013 and 2016. He will have to hold out against the likes of Simon yates, British, who recently won the trident at the Tirreno Adriatico. Or how Geraint Thomas, Rafal Majka, and Jakob Fuglsang who won the Giro di Lombardia. But also the Blue jersey of the Corsa Rosa 2019 Giulio Ciccone. It will truly be a great and exciting sporting event.

At the Giro d'Italia in safety

Unfortunately with the covid emergency there will be many restrictions imposed to safeguard the health of the Giro participants. In addition to the guidelines for athletes, there are limitations for the public. In fact, at arrivals and departures, gatherings will be avoided, with limited access. Obligation to wear a mask for everyone. Runners will no longer be able to approach along the route, as we have seen done in past years. All the rules imposed by the government's Dpcm must be observed.

The Giro d'Italia, however, can be followed on TV thanks to the filming of Rai, which will follow the stages at any time, guaranteeing connections in 185 countries.  In addition, it is expected to third edition of the Giro-E which provides a ride with pedal assisted bikes. This is to bring many more people closer to cycling and to savor the beauties of Italy. Among the participants in this event, the names of Kristian Ghedina, ambassador of the Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina 2021 and Gilberto Simoni who won the Giro in 2001 and 2003 stand out.
