Why visit the "Capelli di Venere" waterfall

La waterfall "Hair of Venus" rises to Casaletto Spartan, a medieval village in the province of Salerno. Site in Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, the village is made up of about thirty rural districts and two main inhabited centers, divided by the Rio di Casaletto and connected to each other by narrow paths. Here you get there, essentially, to stroll around Il Capello. A place so called because of the waterfall that dominates it, a small Eden where you would expect to see even elves and fairies. Its name, however, has nothing to do with legends. Instead, it refers to the Capelverde, a fern that grows luxuriantly here. Flanked by a mill well preserved and from the ruin of the Sorgitore, which diverts the waters coming from the source, the “Capelli di Venere” waterfall is the landing point of the paths that draw the park. Wonderful paths, such as the Cannati path, the religious path of the Rocche or the one that connects Capello to the mill.

How to reach the waterfall

Casaletto Spartano is located in the Gulf of Policastro, south of the province of Salerno. There are several possibilities to reach the village. By car, for example, you take theA3 Salerno - Reggio Calabria and exit at the Padula - Buonabitacolo junction. From here continue on the SS17 towards Sapri, pass the town of Sanza and continue until the Caselle in Pittari junction. Going along the sp16, you get to Casaletto Spartano. By train, however, the closest station is that of Sapri (Naples - Reggio Calabria line). Once you reach the village, the indications for the Hair of Venus Oasis are clear (a tip: near the waterfall the average temperature is 10 ° C, and bringing a jacket is good).

Not only the “Hair of Venus” waterfall: the oasis is full of beauty

The road that leads to the “Capelli di Venere” waterfall offers glimpses of incredible beauty. Here you can walk among the tall pines, immerse yourself in a dense undergrowth and listen to nature. Thanks to wooden walkways, you can easily reach the site, finding yourself in front of a show of lights and colors. The bravest can venture a bath, but the water temperature is 6-8 ° C. And you need to be careful, as the mosses on the rocks make them very slippery.
