It will be the prize Oscar Nicola Piovani to "restore light" to the Greek Theater of Syracuse. It debuts on Friday evening, July 10th, the project conceived by the Inda Foundation, to restart the , at the time of Covid 19. The season of classic performances scheduled for this 2020 has been postponed to next year. Instead, the review “Inda for single voices”Where everything changes but the magic of the theater always remains the same. And in fact, from Friday at the Greek theater there will not be the numbers of the past, the approximately 5 thousand spectators who in the past attended the performances.

But only 480 will be the seats. With the novelty that the spectators will sit on the stage while the cavea will serve as a scenography. All the shows will be premiered with the artists who will measure themselves with the classical tradition, through texts inspired by the figures of ancient theater, and reworked by authors of the twentieth century.

The debut will therefore be with maestro Nicola Piovani who will present the rewrite of "The Isle of Light". It is a cantata for solos, choir and orchestra, based on verses by Vincenzo Cerami: the theme is that of the birth of Apollo the bearer of light. Rerun on Saturday evening. Piovani will conduct 20 instrumentalists and 12 choristers.  Lo show it is produced by the Inda, in collaboration with the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory of Catania and filmed by Rai. On stage there will be Tosca, Massimo Popolizio and the soprano Maria Rita Combattelli.

The “Inda for single voices” project will continue on Friday 17 July with the actress Lunette Savino on stage with “From Medea to Medea” by Euripides, translation and adaptation by Margherita Rubino and Antonio Tarantino. The music will be performed live by the composer and pianist Rita Marcotulli. The direction is by Fabrizio Arcuri.

And again on July 25th Lella Costa with "The widow Socrates" directed by Stefania Bonfadelli, a tribute to Franca Valeri who turns 31 on 100 July and who has written, directed and performed her play since 2003. She will present at the Greek theater “Aiace” by Ghiannis Ritsos, Luigi Lo Cascio, Saturday 1st August. Live music by GUP Alcaro. The dramas of Phaedra, Antigone, Clytemnestra and Lena will be performed on Saturday 8 August by Laura Morante from the text “Fuochi” by Marguerite Yourcenar. Accompanying her will be the musicians Rodrigo D'Erasmo (Afterhours) and Roberto Angelini. The direction is by Fabrizio Arcuri.

Then, on August 22, Isabella Ragonese with "Chrysothemes" by Ghiannis Ritsos, in a dialogue with the live music of Teho Teardo, with Giovanna Famulari and Laura Bisceglia on the cello. The direction is by Fabrizio Arcuri. The artist will close the project "Inda for single voices" on August 30th Mircea Cantor, Duchamp Prize 2011, in "The Sound of my Body is the Memory of my Presence". It is a site specific performance with the participation of the students of the Academy of Ancient Drama, a ritual with a strong symbolic impact to celebrate the return to life.

After the performance of Mircea Cantor Lucia Lavia, Anna Della Rosa and Galatea Ranzi will announce the next season. The program includes some excerpts from “Baccanti”, “Ifigenia in Tauride” and “Le Nuvole”, the three shows that were initially scheduled for this year. The evening will also include the extraordinary participation in video by Piera Degli Esposti. Finally the delivery to Eva Cantarella of the Golden Aeschylus Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The shows will be in free live streaming

To cope with this period of emergency, the Inda project also assumes a symbolic value: the possibility of rediscovering the magic of theater to all those who love it. But given that few will be able to access the theater, a digital partnership agreement has been made with TIM: they can be followed for free all over the world in streaming, both live and deferred in the seven days following the performance.
