Eclectic artist, funny, with an original and unforgettable comic style, but also a sensitive man, able to excite with a single joke. All this was Massimo Troisi, the great Neapolitan artist, who died on 4 June 1994, shortly before the release of the film “The postman”, considered by audiences and critics a true masterpiece of Italian cinema. On the occasion of 70 years since the birth of the artist (February 19, 1953), director Alessandro Bencivenga has decided to pay homage to Massimo Troisi with a documentary about his life, entitled "My friend Max”, out at the cinema from the 15 23 December next. As can be guessed from the title, this film will tell the story of the artist Troisi, but also in his private sphere, thanks to the anecdotes of friends and family. To give voice to the narrative are Lello Arena e Chloris Brosca, co-protagonists of the first film directed by Troisi "I start again from three"(1981).

My friend Massimo: the fond memory of those who knew him

In his documentary, Bencivenga interviewed several friends of Massimo, who shared the stage and life offstage with the actor and director. Artists like Carlo Verdone, Nino Frassica, Maria Grazia Cucinotta e Ficarra and Picone they wanted to leave their memory of Troisi, on the set and beyond. The film also shows archive clips, such as testimonials from Renzo Arbore e Pippo Baudo. Another touching story is that of Gerard Ferrara, Troisi's stunt double in his latest film "Il Postino". In fact, Ferrara took Massimo's place in the most difficult and tiring scenes (for example when he pedaled on the hills of Salina e Procida). “My friend Massimo” is a real one act of love towards the Neapolitan actor and director. It is a film dedicated not only to longtime fans, but also to those who want to know more about theeternal Troisi.
