National Unity, or the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy it was the formal act that sanctioned the birth of the Kingdom of Italy. It was the 17th of March 1861 and it happened with a normative act of the Savoyard Kingdom of Sardinia (law n. 17 of 1861 March 4671).
The meeting took place in a provisional hall of Palazzo Carignano. In that moment Vittorio Emanuele II assumed for himself and for his successors the title of King of Italy.
Italy turns 160
It all started in Turin, when Vittorio Emanuele II delivered the legendary opening speech from the Piedmontese parliament. "While we respect the treaties we are not insensitive to the cry of pain that rises towards us from so many parts of Italy". Today it is also there "National Unity, Constitution, Anthem and Flag Day", and it is more so than ever in these hours of difficulty that Italy faces, wounded in the affections, due to the pandemic, in the lashed economy and in the many difficulties.
