Messina is the first European city to use the needle-free vaccine. The technology - already in use in the United States, Australia and India - uses a high-speed jet that replaces the action of the needle.

How the needle-free vaccine works

His name is "Comfort-in”And, in Europe, the Gamastech. It is a CE certified medical device, and was designed for subcutaneous administrations of medicinal substances. Not just for the Covid vaccine, therefore: its fields of application are infinite. But, in Messina, it will be used precisely to make the needle-free vaccine. Comfort-in will obviously not replace the administration of vaccines with a traditional syringe, but will accompany it, and can be used for all sera currently in use in Italy (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca).

The syringe (without needle, sterile and disposable) inserts the vaccine into the arm through a micro hole, which It "projects" the drug into the body in less than 100 milliseconds. On the morning of Wednesday 28 July, inside the Fiera di Messina hub, the Covid emergency commissioner Alberto Firenze, the general manager of Asp Messina Dino Alagna and Arturo Maravigna of Gamastech illustrated its operation with a press conference. What are its advantages? First, it is one solution to the fear of needles: Belonephobia, or trypanophobia, affects 10% of the world population. This method can make the vaccine idea bearable. Furthermore, a syringe without needles makes the injection painless, is extremely effective thanks to the dispersion method and eliminates the risk of accidental needle sticks.

The latest inventions against Covid-19

There is not only the syringe without needles: technology has taken the field against the Coronavirus, and there are many devices that are currently used. Especially to find out the estimate. Just think of telemedicine, and the project that comes from our South. Telemachus is an ambitious project by telemedicine developed by a consortium of companies from Southern Italy led by g-nous, an Apulian company active in the space economy sector. What is it about? Of a smart bracelet, which allows doctors to assist patients remotely. This bracelet, certified as a Class 2A medical device, detects the wearer's vital parameters in real time and sends them to the doctor. Which, in this way, can analyze the heart rate, body temperature, blood oxygenation and electrocardiogram of the person.

On the front of the masks, however, a novelty comes from the United States that has a bit of Italy in itself. The Massachusets institute of technology (MIT) and Harvard University have one mask capable of identifying the presence of Coronavirus in the wearer, in just 90 minutes. A textile company in Milan, specializing in optical fiber fabrics, contributed to the project. So, soon, we may be able to detect the presence of viruses simply by wearing a mask. And then to read the survey on our smartphones.
