Monuments colored in red, flags raised in the main Italian cities, solidarity initiatives to help those in need. Today we celebrate the World Day of the Italian Red Cross, CRI, the large voluntary association that for years has been involved in promoting solidarity initiatives and concrete aid for people in difficulty. And throughout Italy for a week events, moments of meeting and debate have been promoted that will culminate today. A way to make known the association but also the campaigns launched in recent months. The Red Cross currently has 14 million volunteers in 192 countries.
World Red Cross Day
In recent years, the Red Cross has been at the forefront with its own volunteers in the fight against the pandemic and in recent months, the contribution made to help the Ukrainian refugees affected by the war has been fundamental. Today's Day, therefore, takes on an even more significant value. This is why many initiatives have been promoted for the whole week throughout Italy. The Day falls today because it commemorates the anniversary of the birth of its founder Henry Dunant. And the 2022 campaign promoted by the Red Cross is precisely aimed at defending human rights and neighbor. "How are you? What's your name? Where are you?" the slogan chosen to put at the center of the commitment "every person" who "has a story and we are all interested in".
The initiatives of the Red Cross
A week of events, therefore, for this anniversary. The flags of the Red Cross have been hoisted on the buildings of the Municipalities, while many monuments have been illuminated with “red”, the color of the association. Among the most significant initiatives in recent days, the “Right to Prevention” project was launched. While yesterday and today in Rome at the association's headquarters in via Ramazzini, the first was promoted National Competition of International Humanitarian Law. Expected the participation of secondary school students. And on the occasion of the matches of the Italian football championship there will be banners in the main Italian states, an initiative promoted in collaboration with the Lega Calcio.
A single number for emergencies
And it was presented in these days in Rome, at the headquarters of the association, the national number 1520, assigned to the Italian Red Cross for social-health and emergency services. Also inaugurated an office equipped with advanced technical means. There will be 70 workstations for operators, who will deal with social-assistance and medical requests seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
