It will cost between the 6 and the 8 euro the kit for the tampon from do you, arriving in Italian supermarkets (and in participating shops) starting next May. Produced by the Chinese Xiamen Boson Biotech, and distributed in Europe by the German Technamed, the special kit got the certification CE. And it promises to be an additional tool for the containment of infections.

How the do-it-yourself tampon works

Listed in the list of medical devices by the Ministry of Health, the DIY tampon kit can be sold anywhere. It is therefore not a pharmacological device, which can only be sold in pharmacies, but it can be found almost everywhere: in the supermarket, at the bar, in the shop, at the motorway restaurant. And it is precisely this ease of purchase that bodes well. You no longer need to go to the pharmacy to undergo the quick test. Or at least, not necessarily. You can buy the kit while shopping and then do it if necessary, without leaving the house. How does the do-it-yourself tampon work? The operation is that of a normal one nasal swab, to be carried out by carefully following the instructions. The result comes in 15 minutes and, although its reliability is not equal to that of a molecular test, it can help self-diagnose the positivity to the virus even in the absence of symptoms. While waiting to contact your doctor.

"We are proud to be able to provide all of Europe with the Boson self-diagnosis test, a quality product to contain and fight the pandemic”Said Techomed CEO Moritz Bubik. A small tool that, although not as effective as tests carried out in hospitals, drive-throughs or other buffer points, is always one more weapon to fight the pandemic. Especially since, not even a year ago, they came to terms with the lack of numerous devices including (precisely) tampons.

The latest inventions to fight the Coronavirus

There is not only the kit for the do-it-yourself tampon. In recent months, scientists from around the world have been working to identify small and large solutions to the Coronavirus. This is the case of the mask that kills Covid-19, invented by an English professor expert in nanotechnology and composed of 5 layers (one of which in copper which, by releasing ions, kills the virus upon contact). Instead, it was approved in Israel nasal spray produced by Canadian SaNOtize. Thanks to the content of nitric oxide, according to the studies conducted it would decrease the viral load of Sars-CoV-2 in the upper nasal passages by 95% in 24 hours and by 99% in 72.

Still on the subject of sprays, it seems that the Oxford researchers are working on one spray version of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The news comes from the Financial Times, which speaks of a first trial in progress. If the possibility of vaccinating in this way were to become a reality, it would be a real turning point in the global vaccination campaign. Moreover, as explained during a hearing in Parliament by Professor Sarah Gilbert, at the head of the experiment, the intramuscular route is not necessarily the most suitable one against a respiratory tract infection. And, the spray would hit exactly where the Coronavirus lurks: nose, throat and lungs.
