After the Easter holidays mainly in the red zone, from 12th April, Italy will return to the orange zone and this also leads to the reopening of some of the architectural and landscape wonders of our country. One of these is the Miramare Park di Trieste, which surrounds the namesake castle. Fortunately, the arrival of spring will give a magnificent show to citizens and tourists who want to visit the park. In fact, there are many flowers that bloom in this period, such as the daffodils, the crocuses and muscari whose bulbs were planted in the fall. Finally, visitors can also admire the citrus plants which will be brought back outside the greenhouses after the winter period.
Miramare Park: Maximilian of Habsburg's botanical dream
The Miramare Park was born from the "utopian" vision of Maximilian of Habsburg and was made at the mid-nineteenth century by the Austrian architect Carl Junker. Initially the karst terrain of the area of gulf of Trieste it was almost entirely devoid of vegetation. Maximilian of Habsburg therefore wanted to import various shrubs and rare plants from different areas of the world, fromAfrica al South America. In the part in front of the Miramare Castle there is a Italian garden. A few steps away is also the "Swiss cottage" (today Kaffehaus) located next to the swan lake. Also in the chapel of San Cianciano there is a crucifix made with the wood of the frigate "Novara"Of 1900 (commissioned by the brother of Massimiliano D'Asburgo). The real park is instead positioned above the castle. Born as a private space in 1955, the Archaeological Superintendency, Fine Arts and Landscape del Friuli Venezia Giulia will decide to make it accessible also to the public.
The hours of the Miramare Park in Trieste will be the usual ones of the spring season (that is to say from 8 am to 19 pm). Of course, we must respect the sanitation regulations (first of all the use of the mask) and of distancing (at least one meter). Unfortunately the museum inside the Miramare Castle it will remain closed until the return of Friuli Venezia Giulia to yellow zone. The reopening will in fact depend on theRT index of the region (currently a 0,79 the lowest in Italy). If these numbers of the Covid-19 emergency remain stable or even improve, in the coming weeks, perhaps the castle could also be reopened to the public.
