Is coming the summer and the concern for weeks is the se e like we will be allowed to go to the sea. Due to the restrictions due to the Coronavirus, nothing is the same as before. Nor lying on a more or less crowded beach to sunbathe and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Routes are currently being studied alternative to the unlikely Plexiglas cabins to be assembled in battery in the factories. First solution advanced and immediately contested - with good reason, we would like to say.
Cristina Fera He is 29 years old, he is a Sicilian architect who has honed his skills and his taste in the city of Milan - a lively crossroads of international design - where he has been involved for some years and with great success in the field of fashion. Cristina wanted to put forward her proposal: an original project, carefully functional, and which does not sacrifice good taste to effectiveness.
Is called Pinwheel: a kind of bungalow with expandable rotation (up to four and a half meters). A solution that easily adapts to the decor and landscape of our beaches. Thanks to the rotating movable partition walls, it allows a certain proximity between cabin and cabin, avoiding waste of space and being able to accommodate - always in safety - a large number of holidaymakers.
The idea came to Cristina by browsing the images of the unhappy cubicles of Plexiglas on the web. At the design stage, his main goal was to create something that truly enabled live the summer to the Italians (it will be difficult to host foreigners in this very complicated season - ed). Cristina is well aware that Plexiglas does not adapt to our beaches, it is neither aesthetic nor functional: hit by the sun's rays, it overheats everything it contains, cooking it in a kind of slow tropical agony. That's why she got to work.
There is also a bit of Sicily in her creative process, as she explains to us:
These days with my friends I was imagining how our summer will be. I addressed a thought to the people who have shores and also to those who going to the sea will not feel safe fearing contagion. We also commented on the Plexiglas structures which have raised a lot of criticism. One evening after work I started to imagine what a creative and at the same time beautiful solution could be. I was inspired by the conformation of the territory of my region, Sicily. I immediately thought of designing structures capable of making us live the summer without giving up the sea, comfortable in the evening for those beaches that organize concerts and DJ sets. Pinwheels are born to offer functionality. And they allow you to tan in relaxation avoiding crowds.
The Girandola project is in progress. Cristina is studying the precautions that will make it as effective as possible. The choice of materials, above all:
My work in fashion is helping me. I worked a lot for the setting up of events in which we focus on the types of fabrics to be used. In choosing the fabrics for the pinwheels, I focused a lot on texture. Lightness is important to make the most of the potential of the marine environment.
The material under study will therefore be extremely light. It will look like linen, both to the eye and to the touch. Like in a pinwheel, yours Levite it will support the flow of the wind and the different orientation of the panels will allow you to choose the ventilation that we like best. The pinwheels will be washable and can be easily sanitized. During the day they will allow excellent exposure to rays and you can tan without suffering the heat because the weft of the structure and the fabrics that compose it are assembled to avoid stagnation of air. The cabins can also be used in the evening, because each one is equipped with its own integrated lighting system.
There are people who don't accept changes. I read negative comments. But there are also people who have imagined with me and who have contacted me - Cristina tells us, confessing that in any case the greatest difficulties, in this particular period, concern the chain and production costs: They tend not to be very high, but there could be difficulties for commercial activities in serious trouble due to the health emergency.
It is not yet clear what summer awaits us, new decrees will certainly arrive. And Cristina hopes that after all there is no need for these precautions. But he greets us with a thought of energy and sharing:
Pinwheels made me want to design new projects. After this emergency there will be a lot to redesign and we need to take creative action, make the most of the quarantine time.
