How World Nutella Day was born

World Nutella Day was born from an idea of the American blogger Sara rosso that, in the distant 2007, he thought that his beloved Nutella deserved a day of his own. Many followers of the blogger welcomed the fun initiative and, thanks also to social word of mouth, World Nutella Day has crossed borders, crossed oceans and reached Alba, headquarters of Ferrero. In 2015 the same company decided to sponsor Wolrd Nutella Day, thus making it a "official party". Every 5th February all Nutella lovers share photos and videos of Nutella-based desserts on social networks. Ferrero also celebrates the day with one this page on its official website, with special recipes, promotions and exclusive packages of its product. Moreover, for some years now, this event has also been celebrated during the Festival of Sanremo, of which Ferrero is the official sponsor.

Finally, it should be remembered that on 5 February 2021, on the occasion of the 14th World Nutella Day and 75th anniversary since the founding of Ferrero, Nutella has been celebrated in one silver coin of the series "Italian excellence"(Worth 5 €), coined by Mint of the State and issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. On the front of the coin is engraved a jar of Nutella, with a colored cap (red, green or white). The Ferrero factory in Alba is engraved on the back.

Nutella: a sweet Italian success

It is undeniable that Nutella is today a global phenomenon. World Nutella Day, born in United States, is the most striking example of this. The history of Nutella, however, began a long time ago, after World War II. His ancestor, the giandujot, is in fact produced in 1946 from the intuition of the pastry chef Pietro Ferrero. It was a spreadable cream (sold as a block) that contained sugar, hazelnuts and little cocoa, hard to find at the time. Five years later, in 1951, the Giandujot was transformed into "Supercream”, Softer and, above all, sold in a jar. The real Nutella was born in mid 60s. In fact, the first jar of hazelnut cream leaves the Ferrero factory in Alba (1964). The following year it will then be packaged iniconic jar, the same as the one still on the market. In the following years it crossed national borders, arriving first in France and then conquering the whole world.
