Big news on the way regarding the vaccine plan against Covid-19. Piemonte will be the first Italian region to allow vaccinations in pharmacies and in general medicine studies. It is the provisions of two agreements signed on 19st January laid down by the Health Department of the Region with the trade union representatives of the two categories (Fedefarma e Assofarm for pharmacists e Fimmg, Come on, snami e Trade union agreement for doctors) in the presence of the regional health councilor Luigi Genesio Icardi and the Piedmontese governor Alberto Cirio. The reservations of the anti-Covid vaccines in pharmacies they can only start when the vaccine is available AstraZeneca (or an alternative with similar characteristics). This is because, unlike the vaccines Pfizer e Modern, can be stored at a higher temperature (2-8 degrees), in a normal refrigerator.

How the administration of Covid vaccines at the pharmacy will work

As reported in the press release published on the website of Piedmont region, the first subjects to be vaccinated will be the over 80 years old and who is not self-sufficient. The latter, if they have already received the flu vaccine, can be vaccinated at the own domicile. At a later stage, the phases already foreseen by the national vaccine plan will be followed. As for the administration of anti-Covid vaccines in pharmacies in Piedmont, these can be carried out on the spot, but always under the supervision of a doctor. In addition, the pharmacies will also take care of the storage, distribution and delivery of vaccines that will be booked by doctors, as is the case with flu vaccines. Governor Cirio satisfied, who declared that "Piedmont is among the first Regions to sign an agreement of this type, which will allow us to reach all citizens and in particular the most fragile groups in a widespread manner".

Before the plan envisaged by the Region is implemented, however, it will be necessary to wait for the vaccine AstraZeneca get the green light fromEMA and by 'European Union. The British firm applied for trade clearance last year 12st January and, if all goes smoothly, the first vaccines should already arrive on 29st January next. In the following days, the administration of the anti-Covid vaccines will then begin in pharmacies and doctors' offices. To the over80 the Moderna vaccine against Covid-19 will also be inoculated, but it will be administered in the ASL (due to conservation a -20 degrees). However, this can be booked with the general practitioners. Piedmont will pave the way for other regions towards a more widespread and faster vaccination. It will be possible vaccinate all Italians by the summer? Probably not, but the hope of defeating the virus soon grows more and more, day by day.
