Apepak

The product is called Apepak, and is therefore composed of organic cotton certified Global Organic Textile Standard. Recycled cotton is also used. Beeswax, pine resin and jojoba oil can all be provided by professionals beekeepers. Apepak appears as a square of cotton-like cloth. Worked with beeswax and jojoba oil, it becomes resistant to wrap food. The fabric square does not drip and seals, so it can be used to cover food. The advantage of this material is that it does not pollute at all. It does not contain petroleum derivatives.

Apepak Italian excellence

This material is breathable, adheres to food. It is perfect for products such as bread, to prevent moisture from making it soggy. The completely Italian product, is also ideal for wrap fruit, meats and cheeses, keeping them fresh for a long time. It therefore replaces the casings disposable plastic and aluminum. Beeswax tends not to get dirty as it is water repellent. The sheets can be washed with soap and running water.

What an idea!

The idea is by Massimo Massarotto and his wife Molly, who registered the trademark in the USA. The couple produced the invention in a homemade way, by soaking the squares of cloth in the wax. Then they tried to give them to relatives for Christmas, receiving positive reactions. The couple, however, wanted to launch the product in Italy, because they wanted a “made in Italy” product, produced in Italy.

Sonda social cooperative onlus

This is why they looked for partners, finding their friend Francesca Amato. Amato is now vice president of social cooperative Sonda onlus, which has research laboratories. The cooperative has a laboratory in San Vito di Altovole, and is already producing and experimenting this new film, also thanks to the help of a group of volunteers who are testing it to understand how to improve the product to make it one of a kind.

An ecological product

The idea of the cooperative is not just to create a ecological product. It is that too to integrate people in difficulty into work. According to estimates, thirty minutes of work could be remunerated for a disadvantaged member of the Onlus Social Cooperative. This innovative product, it could become a hotbed of jobs in crafts for disadvantaged people, which is not negligible.

Organic cotton farming

It seems that with this patent they can save nine square kilometers of plastic wrapping per year, supporting agriculture of organic cotton e than the recycled one. The product therefore saves one square meter of film with each use. Apepak is durable, multipurpose, because it is malleable, antiseptic, sealant, biodegradable. Never like today, we need something to free us from plastic. Perfect for wrapping a sandwich, fruit, leavening dough or sealing leftovers.
