Excellent news from the front vaccines against Covid-19. After Pfizer e Modern, also Oxford-IRBM vaccine e AstraZeneca reaches a '90% efficacy. The announcement comes a few hours after a precedent of the company, which instead stopped at 70%. It would not in fact be a "calculation error", but rather the average result between tests carried out on two groups of volunteers. In practice, the former would be given one full dose both the first and the second month (the reminder). To the second group (approx 3mila volunteers) was administered instead half a dose initial and, 28 days later, a full dose. The effectiveness of the vaccine would have been del 62% in the first group of volunteers, while del 90% on the second. By carrying out a combined analysis of the two groups, theaverage effectiveness it would therefore be del 70%.

The Oxford-IRBM and AstraZeneca vaccine is still pending approval but may already be available in 3 billion doses in 2021. In particular, in Italy we may already see 2-3 million of doses already in the next few months. The strengths of this European vaccine are the cost (that is to say 2,80 € per dose), but above all his own storage. While the Pfizer vaccine needs to be stored a -80 degrees (the company is studying a powder version to solve the problem), the AstraZeneca AZD1222 vaccine can be stored at a temperature between 2 and 8 degrees, suitable for a normal home fridge. The drug will then be distributed both in pharmacies and in doctors' surgeries, therefore easily available to everyone.

Vaccine Oxford, Pfizer and Moderna: will they be mandatory?

Mandatory or not mandatory? That is the question. Vaccines againstCovid 19 they are now in the home straight, but the debate on their mandatory nature has already begun. The premier Giuseppe Conte, interviewed by Lilli Gruber to "Eight and a half", He assured that they will not be mandatory, even if highly recommended. On the other hand, Nicholas Magrini, the director ofItalian Drug Agency (AIFA), he would not want to exclude this possibility, but only in an emergency. As stated during the meeting "A vaccine for all", on the occasion of International festival a Ferrara"Obligation is a delicate mechanism that must be reserved only in extreme cases, such as healthcare personnel and RSA personnel, but must be used with great caution because it is necessary to stimulate individual responsibility and trust by providing adequate information.".

According to a recent survey Ipsos published by Corriere della Sera, only the 37% some Italians would be ready to get vaccinated immediately, 42% would like first wait for its real effectiveness, while the 16% would against vaccination. The Oxford and AstraZeneca vaccine is now one step away from being released in our country. How will the Italians behave? To find out, we will have to wait for the arrival of 2021.
