Il football in Italy it cannot be considered a simple sport, we are talking about something that goes far beyond simple entertainment. One of the most popular teams in Italy and in the world, as well as one of the most successful is certainly Milan. Despite an unsuccessful recent past, it is undeniable that Milan is one of the most glorious and titled teams in the history of football. Good for the fans but also for Italy and Italian football, which has been brought to the top in the world by Milan, together with Juventus and Inter.
The magical nights of Europe
We want to make the AC Milan fans relive some of the most beautiful matches of the Rossonera history. We are not here to list all the Champions League because we have a limit of words and we risk never ending! Seriously, some matches that Rossoneri fans will never forget are the great European victories of Sacchi and Capello, in the late 80s and 90s: Milan-Real Madrid 5-0 in the 1989 Champions League semi-final, for example, with much of the final won 4-0 against Steaua Bucharest.
It is also impossible to overlook the final with Barcelona won 4-0 after Cruijff's inelegant comments, and the final won against Benfica. In the most recent past the Rossoneri legacy has continued thanks to the magical victories of Ancelotti, with the historic all-Italian final against Juventus, and the "rematch" against Liverpool, two years after a night of which it is better not to mention. Impossible not to mention what many defined as the “perfect match” in the 2007 semifinal against Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United, paved 3-0 at San Siro in a magical setting between rain and very hot cheering.
The triumphs in Italy
Although Milan have distinguished themselves more in Europe than in Italy, they are the second team with more league titles, 18, on a par with Inter. At the beginning of the 90s Milan managed to win the championship without suffering defeat (a record then equaled by Conte's Juve). In 94 there was the double for the Rossonera team, with the victory of the Scudetto and the Champions League against Barcelona mentioned above. In between, many championships with Capello and one in 1999 with Zaccheroni. In the new millennium, Milan continued to win with the 2004 Scudetto, Ancelotti's first and only one and that of 2011 with Allegri.
The players who made history
Many, too many champions have played in Milan to be able to name them, do not want those who are not mentioned! It seems right to start with historical captains Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini drivers on the pitch and fundamental appearances in the locker room. In chronological order we find the great ones of the past such as Nordahl, Altafini and Gianni Rivera.
In the golden years of Sacchi and Capello's AC Milan, we find the Dutch trio that drove the Rossoneri fans crazy: Gullit, Rijkaard and Van Basten. In more recent years, however, some of the most popular players have been: Nesta, Gattuso (current Milan manager), Pirlo, Ronaldinho, Inzaghi, Seedorf, Thiago Silva and the golden balls Shevchenko and Kakà.
The present of Milan
In recent years, AC Milan is very far from the standards it had reached in the 90s and early 2000s, with poor results on the pitch and even worse corporate events. There new American management of the Elliot fund he's trying to get the club back to its old glory. To achieve this, he entrusted the task to Gazidis, Leonardo and Maldini at the corporate level.
The team is growing in value with good signings (Higuain above all) and exploits (Suso and Romagnoli), but we are still at the beginning of a growth process which, however, seems well founded. The Milan fans are hopeful with this club, after the disappointments of recent years and the bankruptcy of Chinese ownership. As Italian fans, one can only hope that Milan will soon return to where it belongs, for the good of all Italian football.
