“We live in the most beautiful country in the world”, so we need to do everything to tell its beauties. It may seem like a cliché, which we are often used to hearing. But these few words contain the message of two young girls, who have decided to turn their lives upside down and move to Palermo. Fascinated by a city of a thousand faces, rich in history and traditions, so much so as to make it their new home. And around this desire to to tell the beauties of a city have given life to what at first was just a game. But that soon became a project that will surely take them far. We interviewed the volcanic “Malìa vibes”, Giulia Proietti Timperi and Marta Bison.
One Roman and Piedmontese respectively, but Milan was the last city where he lived, the other. 28 and 25 years old who have "taken home", in the true sense of the word, in Palermo since 5 September. Through social media, in particular Instagram, where they are very popular, they tell the secrets of a city, Palermo, to be discovered. The name they gave each other is a union between the two of them. Because with a look that we can say "bewitching" they tell the many vibrations of the city. And they are very close. Known by chance, they soon "found" and not only a deep friendship was born between them, but also a fruitful collaboration.
When did you move to Palermo? When did it all start?
We moved to Palermo on September 5th, when we got the keys to our house. We arrived in this city in July. We were co-workers but we had never crossed paths. We wanted to "change the scenery" after the hard months of quarantine. And for this we booked a b & b and a one-way ticket on the ferry to spend forty days in Palermo. So we found ourselves in this city and we immediately fell in love with it. Then in September the decision to take a house in Palermo and move there.
How was “Malìa Vibes” born?
Malia Vibes is not a job, as some might think. Also because we take care of something else. We work for two digital marketing companies. One deals with content creation (Marta) and the other with online advertising (Giulia). As soon as we arrived in Sicily we told, through our social networks, the places we visited, in an ironic way. And in no time we realized that we had created a fun game. Many started writing to us, saying they were following us. And they asked us to open a unique profile. So it was. Then, thanks also to the skills acquired with our work, we gave life to Malìa Vibes. We have several social channels such as Facebook, Telegram, Spotify, a website, but mainly Instagram.
How do you see your future? What projects do you have in the pipeline also in view of the restart phase?
Lots of them. But they are being defined. We want to travel as much as possible. And see many other places of the Sicilia. Last summer we saw little. We were only in Catania. But we want to bring those who follow us as much as possible to various places in this land. And so continue to tell with our way of doing, between gags and insights, the infinite beauty of this island.
Are there any places in Palermo, even less known, that occupy a particular place in your heart?
There are many fascinating places in this city. Such as the Molo sant'Erasmo where we go to see the sunrise, or Casa Professa, the Capogallo reserve, Villa Virginia, breathtaking, which few people from Palermo know.
And how is the relationship with the Palermitans?
As soon as we arrived last summer we immediately made many friends. This is a city with great sociability. Over time we have discovered that there are people who may have a somewhat resigned mentality. But others are proactive and constructive and fight for what they believe in.
What message do the Malìa Vibes want to leave to those who perhaps have a project to carry out, but unfortunately find it difficult to carry it out?
"That it always takes a lot of curiosity- says Giulia -, a lot of study and looking at everything that surrounds us with virgin eyes ". "We live in the most beautiful country in the world - Marta echoes - and the more I travel, the more I realize it. This uniqueness must be defended and disseminated".
