Seven thousand infections. A number that is scary again. Although steps are being taken to get to the production and distribution of vaccines also in Italy, unfortunately there is a significant increase in infections. And what is most worrying are the admissions to hospitals which risk bringing intensive care to its knees again. In the last twenty-four hours, according to the daily monitoring of the Ministry of Health on new infections from Covid 19, the number of 7332 new cases was recorded, and 152.196 swabs performed.

Contagions and deaths on the rise, it is again an emergency

Not just the infections though. The dead are also returning: 43, for a total of 36.289 victims since the beginning of the emergency. Furthermore, 1.428 patients recovered or discharged in the last forty-eight hours. According to the ministry's data, therefore, the number of infections is very high. Such a number had not been registered since March 28, when we were in full lockdown. Above all, hospital admissions are frightening. There are 25 more patients in intensive care than yesterday, for a total of 539. According to the data, moreover, ordinary hospitalizations are also increasing +394 for a total of 5470.

The regions most affected by the new infections

The greatest spread of the virus and therefore new infections are recorded above all in Lombardy with 1.844 regions followed by Campania with 818, Veneto 657, Tuscany 575. No region with zero cases, the best is Basilicata with 9 new infections. The total since the beginning of the epidemic rises to 372.799. "Compared to March-April- underlined the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza to "Di Tuesday" on La7 - when the new coronavirus mainly affected Lombardy and some northern regions, the big difference is that now the infection is present throughout the country". No region can feel free and unscathed from risks, the minister clarified.

Covid infections on the rise in Italy
The fear of a new emergency does not seem to stop

The epidemic curve "is growing throughout Italy". The goal now is to avoid new closures but to face the emergency with targeted interventions. "Avoid the most drastic measures - assured the minister - we must work to exploit the advantage we have over other countries". All it will therefore depend on the actions taken by the government and regions to contain infections and enforce the rules. But also from the behavior of people, who must respect the rules on social distancing.

The measures adopted in the various countries

With the new decree of the Prime Minister, Italy tries to contain the spread of the infection by establishing intervention measures. Not total closures, but targeted. But the clash over the school remains. The government and the Ministry of Education they want to avoid returning to distance learning. And this would seem to be the orientation adopted by many schools: closure and isolation only of the classes affected by new infections. Quarantine, treatment and return to school. So far, schools have been able to enforce the rules. But it's not that simple. Many young people who are supervised at school by teachers then outside do not wear masks and do not respect the distancing. And so the virus spreads. Many asymptomatic patients, but also the infected among the weakest patients.
