The wonders of the Marsica, the splendid location of Abruzzo, a village that is sometimes “fairytale”. We are a tagliacozzo, a town at the foot of the Carseolani mountains. In these territories, not far from the inhabited center, there is one of the most important ski resorts in Abruzzo: the majestic ski resort of Marsia. With “peaks” of almost 1700 meters, as many as six slopes, and breathtaking landscapes, this facility is among the most popular in central Italy. Every year thousands of fans flock to this little "paradise" wintry.

The origins of the village of Tagliacozzo

In order to determine the origins of this village, it is necessary to take a real dip in history. A kind of journey into the "heart" of time. A path into the oblivion of memory that reaches the Marsi population. Some historical reconstructions attribute the starting perimeter for the creation of the hamlet of Tagliacozzo to the XNUMXth century. However, the traces of two large populations remain, that of the Marsi and the Equi, important pieces of local tradition and beyond. According to some studies, a part of the population of the Marsi would have gone as far as Calabria, to establish a village. But let's stay on the main theme, this trend will be the subject of attention in a future article. In the surrounding mountains there are several caves dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age.

The legend

The origins of the name, according to a very strong legend, should be attributed to the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosine. Talia, a muse of comedy, during one of her journeys would have rested along the path of a river, the river Imele. This bivouac and rest in these territories would have given the name of Tagliacozzo (otium- the sweet doing nothing-of Talia). The imposing rift of Mount Bove could also have contributed to the origins of the name: cut of the rock.

Little Switzerland in Tagliacozzo

What to see in this village? Surely the hamlet "Little Switzerland" is one of the most sought after destinations by many tourists, who flock to this area every year, where legend mixes with reality. The characteristic houses make the hamlet suggestive. The houses set perfectly on the mountain, the climate purely squirky, the name in toponymy, these are the elements that shape an earthly paradise in the heart of Abruzzo. The residential area resists bad weather and still retains all its beauty today.

From Piazza Obelisco to Palazzo Ducale

Piazza Obelisco is considered one of the most beautiful squares in Italy. The ancient village mixes around this treasure chest of authenticity. Historic buildings, arches, Renaissance windows, this is the perfect blend of the evocative architecture of the place. The majesty of the fountain, present in the Obelisk square, welcomes the visitor's gaze. Basically this place of "geometry" arises from the union of two adjacent squares. The scenography of this "film" of beauty is given by a branching of narrow streets. In this place the Talia Theater, the Mastroddi palace, the Ducal, a thirteenth-century fountain, completely bewitch the traveler. A true masterpiece of art is certainly the Ducal Palace, inside there are literally refined paintings and ornamental rooms, hidden by the stained glass windows. The village, considered among the most beautiful in Italy, was also the capital of Marsica. Traveling in Italian "authenticity" continues. For now we leave this treasure chest of history to reach a new place.
