It’s perfect for any occasions. It is ideal for the family breakfast, or even as a genuine snack. The main ingredient is, in fact, ricotta. In pastry-making it is used for the famous Sicilian cannoli or tarts. But now we mix it into the dough for a truly amazing result.

Some words on the main ingredient of our recipe…

Ricotta is a dairy product obtained by coagulation the whey. This process occurs when the whey is warmed at 90 °. It is a light product, and therefore it is ideal for those who want to lose weight. On the other hand, calories increases when is is used for other purpose. It is not suitable for lactose intolerants. There are different types of ricotta. There are those from cow’s, sheep’s, goat’s and buffalo’s milk; while it can be salty if salt is added for storage and then dried.

Ricotta pie: which ingredients should be used?

These are the ingredients we need to make the pie: 200 grams of all-purpose flour; 150 grams of sugar; 100 grams of butter; 4 eggs; 1 glass of milk; 150 grams of cow’s milk ricotta; 1 sachet of baking flavouring; icing sugar on the cake.

How to make ricotta pie

First take the eggs, separate the egg whites from the yolks, and place them in two different bowls. Then start whipping the egg whites; add the yolks while continuing to mix. Then add the sugar, taking care to mix well. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over low heat and then add it to the batter.

Slowly, add the flour and ricotta, continuing to mix in order to obtain a smooth and soft mixture. Finally, add the sachet of baking powder and Stir until a lump-free mixture is obtained. Pour in a buttered pan. Bake at 170° for about 35 minutes.

Do the toothpick test

If you are not sure your cake is cooked to perfection test it with a toothpick. If it is clean, then it is perfect. Otherwise, continue until you finish cooking. When your dessert is ready, take it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Sprinkle with icing sugar and serve your cake. And then, enjoy it!
