Solidarity is the keyword in this difficult moment for Italy. Many donations to hospitals in our country. Giorgio Armani was among the first. Now a new gesture of generosity comes from the great Italian designer: he will convert fashion production into lab coats for healthcare workers committed to coping with the spread of coronavirus. Like him, many other companies in the fashion industry have taken the field to help healthcare.
Armani, all plants converted
With a note, the Armani group announced that it will convert all its Italian production plants to make disposable coats for the individual protection of health workers who are fighting against covid 19.
Armani has already donated 2 million euros. First in favor of the Civil Protection and of some hospitals such as Luigi Sacco, San Raffaele, the Cancer Institute of Milan and Spallanzani in Rome. Subsequently, he also made donations to the hospital in Bergamo, Piacenza and Versilia. Even before the pandemic broke out, when the infections were still contained, the stylist, like other colleagues, had chosen to parade behind closed doors at the Milan fashion week.
Armani, The Ferragnez, Valentino … on the front line
The fashion industry immediately took the lead in this battle. The famous fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni and her husband, Fedez, donated 100 thousand euros and launched a fundraising campaign thanks to which an additional intensive care unit was set up at the San Raffaele hospital. More than 4.4 million euros have been raised so far thanks to the generosity of over 202 thousand people. Anyone can also participate with a minimum donation of 5 eurosthrough the gofundme online platform.
The Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation donated 1 million euros to the Columbus Covid 2 Hospital of the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome. 2 million euros came from Gucci in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo and Facebook. One million went to civil protection for new ICU beds and the other went to the UN Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. In response to the appeal launched by the Tuscany region, Gucci’s parent company, the Kering Group, has already announced the production of over 1 million masks and coats for healthcare workers.
Prada and Bulgari also converted production
In addition to Armani, Prada and Bulgari converted production to help hospitals. Prada has started the production of 80,000 coats and 110,000 masks for the health workers of the region. Deliveries will be completed by April 6th. After making an important donation to Spallanzani to purchase of a high definition 3D microscope, Bulgari decided to produce, together with ICR (Industrie Cosmetiche Riunite, Lodi), several hundred thousand bottles of hand sanitizer gel for hospital facilities. 6,000 pieces per day for a total of 200,000 bottles by May.
Cura Italia, incentives to convert factories
In recent days, the Special Commissioner for the health emergency, Domenico Arcuri, has announced the conversion of many Italian factories to meet the demand for masks. Extraordinary production has started with the incentives of Cura Italia for industrial conversion. Arcuri has informed that 50 million euros have been made available to Italian companies that want to reconvert or start the production of personal protective equipment. Over 100 companies are ready starting. One hundred and eighty companies from the Chambersof Fachion have joined forces and created two supply chains to produce two million masks a day. The goal is to have a sufficient share of national production in a short time in the hope of covering the national needs.
